Mitek Systems Gets New Patent

Mitek Systems, which deals in mobile capture and identity verification software services, said early Tuesday that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted a new patent to the company. The new patent with serial no. 14,722,058 is defined as an “identification verification using a device with embedded radio-frequency identification functionality,” the company said in a statement.

“This latest patent covers the ability to use both the mobile device’s RFID reader and camera for document verification,” said Stephen Ritter, the chief technology officer at Mitek. “By combining RFID and optical character recognition, we are able to verify that the printed information on the ID matches the data encoded in the ID’s embedded RFID chip, increasing confidence that the identity document is authentic.” Mitek now has 29 patents issued and 16 patents pending.
